we're more than pretty pictures.
Drawing and Painting II Oil Painting
June 26, 2016
Last semester students worked through creating portraits with oil paint. Below is an example of the process sophomore Catherine Love went through. This was a departure from her normal style which is more evident in the first photograph. She used this painting to work on blending her paint in an effort to make a more realistic feel to the skin. The pose she chose was from a religious painting of Jesus holding a loaf of bread. She wanted to give it a modern twist by having one of her classmates hold a banana. This painting took approximately three weeks to complete.
Young Adult Artist Society creates mural in art and history stairwell
June 25, 2016
In January, Art Club members designed and painted murals in the stairwell located between the art and history departments. Students wanted to brighten up a dark dull space by using pastel colors and a Keith Haring inspired style. Drake's "Hotline Bling" was at the height of its popularity so they decided to make dancing figures inspired by the video.
Left, students projected their sketches on to the wall and then painted them. Above, students are nearly finished. It was fun to see other students' reactions to the paintings because this particular stairwell was rarely used until we painted it. One day I even caught some students playing "Hotline Bling" and dancing in the stairwell!
