Robert Louis Stevenson, the acclaimed author of Treasure Island and Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, said this:  “I kept always two books in my pocket, one to read, one to write in.”

Literacy is, perhaps, one of the most important skills students will ever obtain, thus the English Department is focused on raising the literacy level of Handley students.  Additionally, we are committed to helping students raise the level of vocabulary, both in speaking and writing.  Our writing is primarily focused on persuasive, analytical, and expository writing.

Project Based Learning and Digital opportunities are afforded students in the English Language Arts class as well.

Miscellanea Online

Miscellanea is the literary magazine of John Handley High School. This site is a forum for the poetry and prose of JHHS students and teachers. Opinions expressed are those of the writer and do not reflect any sort of institutional policy. Fictional accounts are the creative work of the writer. Any resemblance to actual events or real people is purely coincidental.
