Direct Admissions to George Mason University

The George Mason Direct Admission program provides a pathway for eligible students at John Handley High School to pursue a college degree at George Mason University through a simplified application process.

Eligible students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher by the end of their Junior year and be on track to graduate in the spring of their Senior year with a standard or advanced diploma.

JHHS is sending GMU the weighted GPA from the end of the student’s junior year.

The program requires that JHHS share student information with George Mason.

Your decision on the opt-out form is final. JHHS will provide information on students who are interested in Direct Admission to George Mason University only once, shortly after the opt-out deadline (included on the school's opt-out form).

Students who meet the direct admissions requirements receive the benefit of a streamlined admissions process, which includes an application fee waiver and does not require students to submit an essay or letters of recommendation unless they are applying for the Honors College or certain majors/programs.

The Direct Admission Program does not include financial aid or incentives. Participating in this program does not automatically qualify you for financial aid at George Mason. However, any student who submits an application by November 1 will be considered for scholarships. Students within the program are encouraged to complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or VASA (Virginia Alternative State Aid) by March 1. Submitting a FAFSA or VASA is the best way for George Mason to determine the student’s financial aid package.

JHHS is participating in this program to remove barriers to college entry and help open doors to a high-quality post-secondary education.

This program is only through George Mason University. Students have access to additional direct admissions options through the Common Application (Common App).
