JHHS School Profile

Operates on a 4x4 modified block schedule. Prior to 2024-2025, the HS operated on a block schedule with A & B days, making classes year-long.

Emil & Grace Shihadeh Innovation Center - students elect to take a CTE course and English at our Innovation Center (IC) campus; students are provided a learning environment where they have both voice and choice; are guided by teacher mentors in navigating and managing their time; there are no bells, and students are taught how to negotiate time between the core English class and the career and technical education class.

Advanced Placement (AP)  

English – Language and Composition, Literature and Composition

Social Science – World History, US History, Micro and Macro Economics (24/25 SY only), US Government and Politics

Math – Calculus AB, Calculus BC (offered virtually 23/24SY), Statistics

Science – Biology, Chemistry, Physics 1: Algebra-based (offered virtually 24/25 SY), Environmental 

World Language – Spanish Language and Culture, Spanish Literature and Culture

Fine Art – Studio Art Drawing, Studio Art 2-D, Studio Art 3-D
 

Dual Enrollment (DE) – Dual enrollment courses are offered through Laurel Ridge Community College in core academic and CTE areas. All courses are taught at the college level, and students may opt in for free college credit (at student expense before 24–25). DE is noted on the student transcript. 

Virtual Virginia – Students may select from a variety of course options and earn high school credit through a co-synchronous e-learning model, including AP classes.

Edgenuity – Students may select from a variety of course options and earn high school credit through an e-learning model. This is also used for credit recovery.

Mountain Vista Governor’s School (MVGS) - The mission of MVGS is to present a research-based, technology-enhanced, integrated program in mathematics, science, and the humanities. Students attending MVGS go to the local community college campus.
