Valley Health Clinic

• If a student is feeling sick while at school, they should visit the School Nurse.  

• The School Nurse will determine if the student should be referred to the on-site Valley Health Clinic. If so, they will contact the student’s parent/guardian for verbal permission to send the student to the Clinic. 

• In the Clinic, the Valley Health Medical Assistant will call the parent/guardian to collect insurance information and ensure the necessary forms are completed prior to treatment.

• The Medical Assistant will take the student’s vitals and do any necessary testing before virtually connecting them with a provider like a Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, or Doctor from Valley Health. The parent/guardian may join the Telehealth Visit. 

• The provider may write a prescription if needed to the family’s preferred pharmacy.

• Asthma and allergies

• Cough and colds and flu

• Ear aches

• Sore throats

• Fever

• Headaches

• Head lice

• Pink eye

• Skin irritations 

All students will have access to care regardless of insurance status. 

• Medicaid: Your child will be completely covered. 

• Other Insurance Plans: Valley Health will collect and verify coverage. Co-pays will apply just as if you were visiting another Valley Health Clinic. 

• No insurance: Discounts may be available.

• Yes, a parent/guardian is able to join the video visit with their child. The JHHS Nurse will call the parent/guardian for verbal permission to visit the Valley Health Clinic. The Valley Health Medical Assistant will follow up with another call during the visit. 

• Yes, the parent/guardian will be notified of the visit. The JHHS Nurse will call the parent/guardian for verbal permission to visit the Valley Health Clinic. The Valley Health Medical Assistant will follow up with another call during the visit.

• No, the student does not need to have their insurance card on hand to access School-Based Telehealth Visits. 

• Yes, translation services are available.

• Please follow school guidelines for keeping your student out of school and plan to visit another healthcare provider. 

• School Guidelines: If your child is ill, including vomiting, diarrhea, or fever, PLEASE keep them home for at least 24 hours. The fever must be gone WITHOUT the use of fever-reducing medications before they should return to school.

• If a staff member is feeling sick during the school day, they can call the School Nurse or go straight to the Valley Health Clinic if there is no one else waiting.   

• In the Clinic, the Valley Health Medical Assistant will work with the patient to collect insurance information and ensure the necessary forms are completed. 

• The Medical Assistant will take the staff member’s vitals and do any necessary testing before virtually connecting them with a provider like a Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, or Doctor. The provider may write a prescription if needed to the pharmacy the patient prefers to use.  

• For now, the Clinic is only open to staff and students of John Handley High School.
